APRIL ,WILD LIFE IN THE GARDEN

I have not been able to get out much lately and have not had much to put in a blog,I have managed to get the following photographs in the last few days though.

A pair of mallards disturbed by the dog .

A tree creeper in the woods.

A goldfinch and blue tit on the bird feeder.

A sparrow hawk in the woods.

The same bird  diving through the trees at a hundred miles an hour,I was amazed that this photo came out as well as it did, thought it would just be a blur.

The resident hare eating the daffodils, apparently hares are quite partial to eating flowers according to a wildlife program I saw on the television the other night.
The photos will enlarge if you click on them.
Hopefully I will be out and about more soon, till the next time I wish you all a very happy Easter.

THIS YEARS FIRST SIGHTINGS.

Over the last week I have been busy looking for the the first wild flowers and the first lambs of the year on the mountain. I was rewarded with the following, each one a favorite of mine.

A new born lamb,a little later mum gave birth to it's twin.

The black sheep of the family plus a spotted one.
I think lambs are cutest of all the baby farm animals,do you agree.??

The next photos are the wild flowers ,they are a little late coming out this year,so it was great finding  the violet and primroses.

I also found bluebells, just a few,but in about a weeks time there will be loads of them out.

The first orange tip butterfly.Last year I only saw one, this year there are lots of them around, hope it is going to be a good year for the butterflies  as there are several I have never been able to photograph .

Granddaughter takes kitkat for a walk and a play for the first time, she loves him to bits and thinks he is like a meerkat.

Thats all for now, have a good week everyone.

NEW ARRIVALS AT THE CASTLE.

The castle has been invaded by rats for quite a while now and our efforts to get rid of them, without using poison, has been futile.
A friend advised us to get a couple of ferrets, rats do not like ferrets,so will flee the property.Several of the local farmers keep ferrets and swear that this works,so John got two ,a male and a female ( big mistake !!  )
He put the two of them in the same cage and I now believe we will have babies in May.!!
Learning from our mistake, they have now been separated, too late,I know, but at least there will not be a repeat performance.
I have to admit they are very endearing ,so playful and cute. They were hand reared and used to human company, they love to be petted and taken for walks.
They have a very large hutch out side the cottage and live in comfort, the only down side is the odour they have,it is very pungent, not unpleasant, but very overpowering.
We have had them for about a week now and we have not had a rat  in that time,so it must work.

Waiting to come out and play.

They love going out  in the little harness, when they  have had enough, they paw at your legs to be picked up.

Looking up on the internet, lots of people keep them in the house as pets,do you or anyone you know keep them in the house ?? if you do,how do you stop the smell,I am keen to know.!!!
I do not let them in the house, but might if I knew how to eliminate the smell.
Have a good week everyone.
